This Yin Yoga Masterclass will focus on the Kidneys & Urinary Bladder Meridians through the lens of Traditional Chinese Medicine 5 Element Theory.
According to the TCM Calendar, Winter is the season for rest, replenishment, rehydration & restoring, the Water Element - teaching us to go with the flow, the softness, fluidity & strength of water, symbolizing adaptability, renewal, and deep wisdom.
We will begin this class with pranayama, simple breath work, that allows us to calm and settle the body & mind, in preparation to move and dive deeper into our practice. Holding passive shapes, often forward folds & back bends, floor-based poses for extended periods, targeting the hips, pelvis, and lower spine to release tension and promote flexibility, with a focus on stillness, breath, emotional responses & the physical body.
During our practice, students will be encouraged to become very aware of the Rebound, the moment of stillness & after a pose, bringing awareness to the physical and emotional sensations experienced, as the complex fascia (which has more nerve sensations than our skin), slowly contracts after stressing during the pose. This is the essence of the practice!
To complete this class, we will trace these meridian channels with a Meridian Nidra, a body aware meditation.
Please bring along with warm comfy clothing, eyepillow & socks!
